Song Mavericks Group approaches lessons differently. It’s in the name. Song Mavericks are curious students who are ignited by music. They find the beat in a song, they make up tunes from their head, they sing along with you in the car, they dance with the live band at your favorite restaurant.
If you recognize these traits in your child, it’s so obvious they are musical that the next question is naturally, “what do I do now?” You want someone who is going to approach your child as an individual, someone who will engage them with encouragement. Someone who doesn’t force practice but allows practice to become a natural part of the learning journey.
As a teacher, Stephanie invites students into a deeper relationship with their instrument as their skill grows. If practice doesn’t come easy, no problem. We won’t force it. We’ll work to build competence together as your child goes through those inevitable frustrations that come with picking up an instrument for the first time.
Over time, your child might go from having sore fingers to landing their first clear chord on guitar. Or perhaps from off-pitch to finding the right note in a song. As they do this, they not only learn music but the practical benefits of patience, focus, and goal setting.

Stephanie will get to know who you are, what your goals are for your child, and who your child is. From there, we can establish if Song Mavericks Group lessons will be right for your family, the frequency of lessons and timing that make sense to you, and when to begin.

Lessons are available for all ages and fully customizable to the student. Call 718-702-8405 for recommendations on time and lesson type. Instruments offered are guitar and voice. I am also open for songwriting lessons for aspiring singer/songwriters.
The first lesson is always a trial at the standard 30 minute or 1 hour rate.

Meet Steph
From the moment I was old enough, I was singing and making up songs for my family. The greatest gift they had ever given me was their encouragement. With that foundation, I learned how to use my voice by singing songs by No Doubt, the Cranberries, or whatever was in our family CD collection to my bedroom mirror.
As a teacher and a guide, I approach my students in much the same way. Encouragement is my ethos, especially for my young students. I look to make sure my students are first and foremost musically enthusiastic. The real gift comes when that enthusiasm begins to turn into dedication, when they discover what a little focus and effort can unlock. Just as it had for me with my vocals and later guitar.
Personally, my musicality goes through seasons. Sometimes I’m writing songs and recording for fun because I’m leveling up, sometimes I’m performing consistently, and sometimes I’m in between the two.
I meet my students where they are, and measure their growth against who they were, not against a predetermined standard. I love to get to know my students and my parents because I understand that music lessons become part of the fabric of family life. My hope is that music becomes something you enjoy together, not simply another thing to keep up with.
When you take a lesson with me, you’re in good hands. We'll build skills, yes, but we'll also build confidence, curiosity, and the ability to dedicate yourself to something you love. My goal is simple: that you leave each lesson a little more musical than when you arrived and a little more yourself.
